I find your posting of personal items, such as to-do lists, and drawings on a library blog disturbing. Sure, these items are mistakenly left in the library or dropped in the bookdrop, but that does not mean that a member of the public will not be able to decipher or recognize the items as belonging to themselves or someone they know.

The Code of Ethics of the American Library Association point three states: "We protect each library user's right to privacy and confidentiality with respect to information sought or received and resources consulted, borrowed, acquired or transmitted."

Although this may be an amusing pastime for some library users and library staff, such items should never be made available to the public without the consent of the individual who created or misplaced the item. I hope that you will seriously consider the lack of privacy you are providing your patrons when libraries across the Nation have committed to protecting the privacy of library users and in turn change the practice of posting personal items on your library's blog without the consent of the individual.

Please reconsider posting personal items on your blog without permission from their owners. We in the information business, should not sacrifice privacy for entertainment.
