Special visitor at Missoula Public Library

The star detective from the mystery series that brought you The Malted Falcon was a visitor at the library. While in the building he checked his email in Web Alley, stopped for a cuppa at Civitella and visited Karen, the librarian, during story time. Patrons were amazed that such a famous name would stop in at Missoula Public Library, but then Chet Gecko knows that the library is the place to be.

Word Woman

Welcome to another spine-tingling installment of Word Woman's Weekly Work-Out! Just a few days remain before the chilling celebration of all things spooky and creepy that we call Halloween is upon us. Hopefully, everyone out there has their costumes and treats all ready for the big night. If not, you can always drop in here at the library and pick up a book of recipes or crafts for a few last-minute tips. Here's a Halloween Word of the Week to get you in the spirit:

Preternatural:

1. Existing outside of nature
2.
Exceeding what is natural or regular : extraordinary
3.
Inexplicable by ordinary means; especially : psychic

"preternatural", http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/preternatural 10/21/2010.

Example: Martin was at a loss to explain to the police the preternatural goings-on which resulted in his car being parked on the roof of a twenty-story office building.

Montana Author's Project

Missoula Public Library went “live” yesterday with a new product --- the Montana Authors Project --- a web-based resource that brings some of your favorite regional literature to digital life. Check it out and let us know what you think:

We have been working on this for several months, and we worked with a fabulous web designer, Jason Neal.  The Project is funded by Humanities Montana. The Montana Authors Project will be featured at Humanities Montana’s Festival of the Book this weekend.

There are many more great Montana books to “map.” We hope to roll out another phase of the Project in the future.  Let us know what you think!
