Have a Question?

Missoula Public Library’s reference librarians are amazing! They know so much and have so much information to share. Even in the unlikely event they don’t know an answer, they know where to find everything! Are you at home working on a research paper? Do you have a trivia question that has you stumped? Would you like to know how to calculate wind chill factors? Go to our homepage at missoulapubliclibrary.org and click on “Ask our Reference Team”. The link will connect to your email program, where you can type your question, send it, and expect a response very quickly.

Go ahead, ask a question, and receive information ~ that’s what we do!

Your hint at wanting to know about wind chill factors prompted me to try your Ask a Librarian service. This is the response I received and appreciate very much. (especially the included links and where the ref lib got the info):
From http://www.pbs.org/teachers/mathline/concepts/weather/answers.shtm: One formula for determining the wind chill factor in degrees Fahrenheit is:

Twc = (0.3V 0.5 + 0.474 - 0.02V)(T - 91.4) + 91.4

Twc is the wind chill, V is the wind speed in statute miles per hour, and T is the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit.

In a formula to calculate a Celsius wind chill, V would be the wind speed in kilometers per hour, and T would be the temperature in degrees Celsius.

Or, a funner solution is to try http://www.megaconverter.com/Mega2/ and select Wind Chill from drop down list (where it says Angles)

What an awesome service!
