It's beginning to look a lot like....

It's even more festive inside!
The snowy weather has gotten the Missoula Public Library staff into a festive mindset this week.  On Friday, the Lolo Brownies made their annual jaunt to our lower lobby to spruce up the official MPL Christmas tree.  And what a spectacular (and patriotic) job they did!   Adorned with yellow ribbons, decorated stars with the names of local soldiers, some crafty blue globes, and delicious-smelling cinnamon cookie ornaments, the Lolo Brownies certainly outdid themselves this holiday season.  Thank you, ladies!
We like to spread cheer throughout the building when possible, so we've put up a very special Toiletries Tree (we like to call it a toiletree) near the library's main entrance.  While returning your books, you can also give back to the Missoula Community by donating personal hygiene items for the Domestic Violence Shelter.
But wait, there's more!  We're going to brave the wintry weather and take our Christmas cheer to the streets this weekend.  Keep your eyes peeled for our book cart drill team at this Saturday's Parade of Lights.  Our bookcarts are all gussied up for the occasion.  All aboard!

Die-brarians join the Day of the Dead parade

Children were shocked, those with overdue fines trembled in their boots as the die-brarians from the library shushed everyone on the parade route during the parade for El Dia de Los Muertos. The crowd roared as they went through their carefully rehearsed book cart drills for all to enjoy. You may not have recognized your favorite librarians in the group but they were there in spirit........

Parade of Lights

Missoula Public Library bundled up and hit the town Saturday evening for the Parade of Lights. We were on track to share some holiday cheer when we unveiled our Book Train in the parade, complete with the bookmobile wrapped and ready to go as a present to our readers.

The Parade may be over, but we're still having fun at the library - stop by and see our train in-person on display in the lower lobby. Oh, and check out a book while you're here!

Day of the Read

Missoula's Die-brarians took over the streets as part of the Day of the Dead parade. Watch out for zombie librarians on the loose! If you didn't make it, here are some pics to see what you missed:

Librarians on Parade

This weekend was a busy one. Not only did we have a party, we also represented the library at the annual Parade of Lights parade. None of us really know what we were doing, but we got lots of cheers and heard, "I love the library!" more times than I could count.
We gave away two full bags of magnets, candy canes and temporary tattoos. I had no idea marching in a parade was such fun, I guess that's why Missoula has parades all the time. I know we'll participate in parades in the future after this one.

Special thanks to Joyce's husband who took some great pictures of us marching. See more of his work at edoylephotography.com.
